♦ SCTIMST developed Chitra Magna, an innovative RNA extraction kit for isolating RNA from swabs for COVID 19 tests

  • SARS-COV-2, the causative virus of COVID-19 pandemic, is an RNA virus. One of the critical steps in detecting this virus is by confirming the presence of the RNA of the virus in the sample taken from the throat or nose

♦ The annual festival at the Kamakhya temple as been cancelled for the first time an outbreak of Pandemic COVID19, Kamakhya Temple also known as Kamrup Kamakhya temple, Kamakhya Devalaya, Hindu temple dedicated to the mother goddess Kamakhya

  • The mobile lab will be helpful in carrying out a diagnosis of COVID19 and in virus culturing for drug screening, convalescent plasma-derived therapy, comprehensive immune profiling of patients towards vaccine development and early clinical trials

♦ The Confederation of Indian Industry projected India’s economy to slow down with estimate ranging from a contraction of 0.9% to a growth of 1.5% in the current fiscal year 2020-21 due to outbreak of COVID19

♦ The snooker World championship rescheduled from 18 April – May 4 to 31 July – August 16, 2020, at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England

♦ The Women’s European Championship, 2021 postponed by 1 year moving out of a direct clash with the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics. UEFA’s executive committee stated as the tournament to be played from July 6 to 31, 2022 in England

  • UEFA stated as men’s European Championship which is Euro 2020 is also postponed to 2021
