6) CSIR-CMERI developed World’s Largest Solar Tree, installed at CSIR-CMERI Residential Colony, Durgapur.

  • The installed capacity of the Solar Tree is of 11.5 kWp, the annual capacity to generate 12,000-14,000 units of Clean and Green Power

7) Quantum State Interferography

  • Scientists from Raman Research Institute found a new way of inferring the state of a system from an interference pattern, termed as ‘Quantum State Interferography’
  • State of a system is for both 2-dimensional qubits and higher-dimensional qubits
  • Qubit/ quantum bit is the basic unit of quantum information
  • Determination of an unknown quantum state is done by Quantum State Tomography method

8) Scientists from the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) brought out a single-step method to develop super-hydrophobic functional surfaces that have the ability to repel water

  • This indigenous laser processing allows the fabrication of fast and flexible super-hydrophobic surfaces on a wide range of materials
  • At present super-hydrophobic properties achieved mostly two-step processes by developing rough surfaces and low surface free energy chemical coatings

9) Ministry of Tourism organised Dekho Apna Desh Webinar series titled, Hampi- Inspired by the past; Going into the future

  • Dekho Apna Desh Webinar Series is an effort to showcase India’s rich diversity under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme

10) The Supreme Court punished civil rights lawyer Prashant Bhushan with a fine of Rs 1 for committing criminal contempt by “Contempt of court/ scandalising the court”

11) Rare Renati Chola era inscription has been unearthed in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh

  • Telugu Cholas of Renadu were called as Renati Cholas ruled over present-day Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh.
  • They used the Telugu language in their inscriptions belonging to the 6th and 8th centuries.
  • Some of Telugu inscriptions were found at Gandikota at Jammulamadugu and Proddatur

12) French economist Thomas Piketty refused to censor his book, Capital and Ideology after the publisher demanded to cut some of the pages of the book to be published in China

Pranab Kumar Mukherjee, 13th President of India died at age of 84 years; he was admitted to the hospital after accidentally falling in the bathroom. Some of the facts

  • Pranab Kumar Mukherjee in Bengali family at Mirati to Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee and Rajlakshmi Mukherjee on 11 Dec 1935
  • He was graduated from the University of Calcutta in MA Political Science & History and also LL.B. degree
  • Mukherjee became an MP Rajya Sabha in July 1969 on a Bangla Congress ticket and re-elected to Rajya Sabha in 1975, 1981, 1993, and 1999
  • Pranab Mukherjee honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and Bharat Ratna in 2019
  • Pranab Mukherjee served as Union Minister of Finance from 2009 to 2012. He became 13th President of India 25 July 2012 to 25 July 2017
