Indian Navy Joint Naval Exercises IN EUNAVFOR: Indian Naval Ship Trikand is taking part in the Joint Naval Exercises IN – EUNAVFOR (European Union Naval Force) in the Gulf of Aden which begin today, as part of a Mission for the anti-piracy operations.
On the 18th and 19th of June 2021, five vessels from four nations took part in the drill. Other warships include the Italian Navy’s ITS Carabiner, the Spanish Navy’s ESPS Navarra, and two French Navy ships, the FS Tonnerre and the FS Surcouf.
The two-day exercise will include various naval operations at sea, such as advanced air defence and anti-submarine exercises, cross-deck helicopter operations, tactical manoeuvres, boarding operations, underway replenishment, Search & Rescue, Man Overboard drills, and other maritime security operations.
Ships of all four navies will endeavour to improve and improve their combat capabilities and their capacity to support peace, security and stability in the maritime sector as an integrated force. On the same day, a virtual “Information Sharing Exercise” is being held between the Indian Navy Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region and the Maritime Security Centre-Horn of Africa.
EUNAVFOR and the Indian Navy collaborate on a variety of issues, including counter-piracy operations and the protection of vessels deployed under the World Food Programme’s charter (UN WFP).
The Indian Navy and EUNAVFOR (European Union Naval Force) also engage regularly through SHADE (Shared Awareness and De-confliction) sessions conducted yearly in Bahrain.
This collaboration demonstrates enhanced cooperation, coordination, and interoperability between INDIA and EUNAVFOR (European Union Naval Force). It also emphasises the shared principles of partner navies in maintaining maritime freedom and dedication to an open, inclusive, and rules-based international order.
