Aspirants can join Indian armed forces in 2 ways
- Permanent Commission
- Short Service Commission
Permanent Commission: The name itself refers to the recruitment process, its permanent recruitment/ commission. Candidates who selected in this process will get retire on attaining 60 years of age
Aspirants of Class 10th Grade, 10+2 undergraduate and graduates were eligible for this commission recruitment
As of now, Permanent Commission only available to men and training is mainly conducted in NDA Pune, Indian Military Academy Dehradun and Officers Training Academy Gaya
Short Service Commission (SSC): It is a shorter service with an initial contract of 10 years following the extension of 4 years after the medical check
Entry level post cadre in the Indian Army
RANK/ CADRE: SEPOY
To the cadre of Sepoy, the examination was conducted as Soldier General Duty, Soldier Clerk/ storekeeper, Soldier Tech, Soldier Nursing Assistant/Tech (RVC) and Soldier Tradesman
Post: Soldier General Duty
Age: 17½ – 21 Years
Qualifications: 10th pass with 45% and each subject must contain 33%
Post: Soldier Clerk/ storekeeper
Age: 17½ – 23 Years
Qualifications: 10+2 pass (60% marks) Each subject must have 50% marks with Maths and English
Post: Soldier Tech
Age: 17½ – 23 Years
Qualifications: 10+2 pass (50% Marks)
Each subject must have 40% marks with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
Post: Soldier Nursing Assistant/ Tech
Age: 17½ – 23 Years
Qualifications: 10+2 pass (50% Marks)
Each subject must have 40% marks with Physics, Chemistry, Biology
Post: Soldier Tradesman
Age: 17½ – 23 Years
Qualifications: 10th / ITI and 8th pass
RANK/CADRE: HAVILDAR
To the cadre of Havildar, the examination was conducted as Havildar (Education) and Surveyor Auto Carto (Engineers)
Post: Havildar (Education)
Age: 21 – 25 Years
Qualifications: Group X-MA/ MSC/ MCA or BA/ BSC/ BCA with Bed BSC(IT) and Group Y – BSC/ BA/ BCA (IT) without BEd
Post: Surveyor Auto Carto (Engineers)
Age: 20 – 25 Years
Qualifications: BA/BSC with Maths 10+2 (Math & Science)
RANK/CADRE: NAIB SUBEDAR
To the cadre of Naib Subedar, the examination was conducted as Catering JCO (ASC) and Religious Teacher (JCO)
Post: Catering JCO (ASC)
Age: 21 – 27 Years
Qualifications: 10+2 with Diploma in Hotel Management & Catering Technology
Post: Religious Teacher (JCO)
Age: 27-34 Years
Qualifications: Graduate and qualified in religion
RANK/CADRE: LIEUTENANT
To the cadre of Lieutenant, the examination was conducted as Technical Graduate Course (TGC), University Entry Scheme (UES), Judge Advocate General (JAG), National Defence Academy (NDA), 10+2 Tech, Indian Military Academy (Non-Tech), Short Service Commission (Non-Tech), Short Service Commission (Tech Men & Women) and NCC Special (Men & Women)

Qualifications: 10+2 (70% marks MPC)
