4) The team of researchers at CSIR- Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, IICB explored the neuro-invasive potential of SARS-CoV-2

  • Researchers suggested the virus may infect the respiratory centre of the brain and should be focused on the respiratory centre of the central nervous system to search for mortality due to COVID-19
  • Researchers said SARS-CoV-2 virus might enter the brain through the nose and reaches the olfactory bulb of the brain. From there, SARS-CoV-2 virus might infect PreBötzinger complex (PBC). It is the primary centre of the brain that controls the respiratory rhythm generation. This will collapse of the respiratory centre in the brain may responsible for the breakdown of COVID-19 patient

5) CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, CDRI, Lucknow received permission to carry out Phase III randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled trial of efficacy, safety and tolerability of antiviral drug Umifenovir

  • Clinical Trials to be carried out at King George’s Medical University, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences and ERA’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital

6) Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) approved a $750 million loan to India to help strengthen its response to the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic

  • AIIB is a multilateral development bank, aims to support the building of infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region
  • AIIB proposed by China in 2013 and launched in Beijing in October 2014
