Today important current affairs 1 June 2020 for UPSC and SSC Exams
1) Prime Minister Narendra Modi chairs first Cabinet Meeting of the second year in office on 1st June 2020. Decisions are taken in the meeting were
a) Helping MSME
- Proposal for provisioning of Rs 20,000 crore as subordinate debt to provide equity support to the stressed MSMEs has been formally approved to be benefit 2 lakh stressed MSMEs.
- Proposal for equity infusion of Rs. 50,000 crores for MSMEs through fund of funds as approved. This will provide an opportunity to get listed in stock exchanges
- Definition of micro-manufacturing and services unit increased to Rs 1 crore of investment and Rs 5 crores of turnover
- Limit of the small unit increased to Rs 10 crores of investment and Rs 50 crore of turnover
- Limit of a medium unit increased to Rs 20 crore of investment and Rs. 100 crore of turnover
- The limit for medium manufacturing and service units increased to Rs. 50 crore of investment and Rs. 250 crore of turnover
- The revision was done after 14 years since the MSME Development Act came into existence in 2006
b) Special Micro-Credit Facility Scheme
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched a Special Micro Credit Facility Scheme, PM SVANidhi, PM Street Vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi providing affordable loans to street vendors.
- Vendors can get a working capital loan of up to Rs 10,000 which is repayable in monthly instalments in the tenure of one year with interest subsidy at 7% per annum
- The loan amount will be credited to the bank accounts of beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer on a six-monthly basis, no penalty on early repayment of the loan
2) Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 25th Foundation Day of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences at Bengaluru via video conferencing, appreciated the role of Doctors and Health Care Workers in the Fight against COVID-19
- Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is located in Bangalore founded in 1996 by the government of Karnataka
- RGUHS is also a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities, UK

3) Union Cabinet approved to extend repayment date up to 31 Aug 2020 for Standard Short-Term loans for agriculture and allied activities by banks
- Standard Short-Term loans up to Rs.3 lakh for agriculture and allied activities which fall due between 1st March 2020 and 31st August 2020 with continued benefit of 2% IS to Banks and 3% PRI to farmers
- Repay of loans extended up to 31. Aug 2020 at 4% p.a., interest without any penalty
4) R K Chaturvedi new as Secretary in the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals
- R K Chaturvedi, 1987 batch IAS officer of MP cadre appointed as Secretary, Dept of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers
- He served as an Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Culture, Chairman of CBSE and DG National Skill Development Authority, NSDA
5) Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan announced the inclusion of 3 more states in the scheme on Integrated Management of Public Distribution System, (IM-PDS), One Nation One Ration Card plan
- 3 States were Odisha, Sikkim and Mizoram, total reaches 20. List of previous 17 States/ UTs included in One Nation One Ration Card plan were Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Telangana, Tripura and Uttar Pradesh, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman Diu
- Under this system, NFSA ration cardholders can get entitled quota of subsidised foodgrains from any ePoS in anywhere in India
6) Indian government initiated repatriation of Indian citizens from overseas under mission Samudra Setu
- Indian Naval Ship Jalashwa departed from Colombo, Sri Lanka brings 685 Indian nationals, reaches the port of Tuticorin in Tamilnadu
7) Government of India approved Rs 812 Crore for Odisha under Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Jal)
- Jal Jeevan Mission is to provide Functional Household Tap Connection to every rural household by 2024
- The Central Government assistance to States for rural water supply began in 1972 with the launch of Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme.
- It was renamed as National Rural Drinking Water Programme in 2009, which is a centrally sponsored scheme with sharing funds between the Centre and the States
8) On the recommendation of the Central Board of Trustees (EPFO), the government accepted the restoration of commuted value of pension
- EPFO Pensioners now get Enhanced Pension
9) Pradip Kumar Tripathi as new Secretary in Ministry of Steel
- Pradip Kumar Tripathi, IAS of J&K Carde 1987 assumed charge as Secretary, Ministry of Steel, GOI
- He served as Special Secretary and Establishment Officer in Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)

11) SpaceX’s successfully docked 2 NASA astronauts with Dragon spacecraft to International Space Station (ISS) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA
- Space Exploration Technologies Corp, SpaceX is an American aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company founded in 2002 by Elon Musk
- It was headquartered in Hawthorne, California, it developed several launch vehicles and the Dragon spacecraft, the human-rated commercial space program
12) R. Sreelekha to become the first woman to take charge as a Director General of Police (DGP) in Kerala
- R. Sreelekha IPS from Kerala, she served as managing director for public sector organisations in Kerala. She earned the nickname of ‘Raid Sreelekha’ during her tenure in the CBI
- She became FIre Force DGP and first woman DGP of independent charge in Kerala
- She won Indian Overseas Award for Public Service in the year 2006
13) Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malikis were nominated for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award and Arjuna award 2020-21 respectively
- Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian woman wrestler to win Gold in Commonwealth and Asian games. She also first Indian Athlete to be Nominated for Laureus World Sports Awards, 2019
- Vinesh Phogat won the gold medal in women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling, Commonwealth Games 2018. In Jan 2020, she won gold in Rome Ranking Series
- Sakshi Malik, freestyle wrestler won the bronze medal in the 58 kg category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at Summer Olympics 2016
- Sakshi Malik received Padma Shri in 2017 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2016, highest sporting honour of India
14) Narinder Batra president of Indian Olympic Association, IOA constituted a 3-member committee led by VD Nanavati, vice president IOA to nominate observers for the elections of IOA members for 2020-2021
15) FIFA, World football governing body has provisionally suspended Yves Jean-Bart, president of Haitian Football Federation from all football-related activities for 90 days
