Day Wise Current Affairs 02-04-2021

1) 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award.2021 conferred to Rajinikanth, a popular south Indian actor. His original name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad born in a Marathi family in Bangalore on 12 December 1950

  • He was also honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2016
  • In the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India in 2019, Rajinikanth honoured with the Icon of Global Jubilee award

2) Dadasaheb Phalke Award introduced by the Government of India to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to Indian cinema. Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in cinema.

  • Phalke, popularly known as “the father of Indian cinema”, directed India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra in 1913
  • The award comprises a Swarna Kamal Medallion, Shawl, and cash prize of ₹1,000,000
  • The First Recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is Actress Devika Rani honoured at the 17th National Film Awards 1969
  • In 2018, Amitabh Bachchan honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 66th National Film Awards 2018
  • In 2021, Rajnikanth honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 67th National Film Awards 2021

3) Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of Odisha on Utkala Dibasa, State formation Day 1st April

  • In 1936, Odisha formed as a separate state out of Bihar and Orissa Province with the addition of Koraput and Ganjam from the Madras Presidency
  • In the memory of formation as a separate state, Odisha Day is celebrated on 1st April as Utkala Dibasa
  • In 2011, with the Orissa (Alteration of Name) Bill and 113th Constitution Amendment, the state name was changed from Orissa to Odisha and its language from Oriya to Odia respectively

4) Increase of 27% in company incorporation observed during Financial Year 2020-21, Ministry of Corporate Affairs registered more than 1.55 Lakh company incorporations as compared to 1.22 Lakh companies during FY 2019-20

  • Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) registered an increase of about 17%, i.e., 42,186 LLPs got incorporated as against 36,176 last year

5) Multinational Military Exercise SHANTIR OGROSHENA 2021 from 04 April to 12 April 2021

  • To commemorate the birth centenary of Bangladesh Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh organizing Multinational Military Exercise SHANTIR OGROSHENA 2021 (Front Runner of the Peace) to mark glorious 50 years of liberation
  • Indian Army, Royal Bhutan Army and Sri Lankan Army to participate in Shantir Ogroshena 2021 along with Military observers from the USA, UK, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Singapore
  • The theme of the Military Exercise is “Robust Peace Keeping Operations”

6) DRDO lab Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), Kanpur developed a lightweight Bullet Proof Jacket weighing 9 kg

  • BulletProof Jacket was tested at Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh and met relevant BIS standards
  • DRDO developed a technology that reduced the weight of the medium-sized Bullet Proof Jacket from 10.4 kg to 9 kg

7) Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari inaugurated Merchant Navy Week starting from 31st March to 05th April 2021

  • Delegation of NMDC met Bhagat Singh Koshyari for Flag Pinning Ceremony and to commemorate the beginning of Merchant Navy Week in Raj Bhavan, Mumbai
  • Delegation of NMDC headed by Amitabh Kumar, Director General of Shipping and Chairman NMDC (Central) Committee
  • National Maritime Day is celebrated on 5th April since 1964 as on this day in 1919, the first Indian Steamship “S.S. LOYALTY” of M/s. Scindia Steam, Navigation Co. Ltd., Mumbai, ventured into International Water on her maiden voyage from Mumbai to London
  • The government set up the Central National Maritime Day Celebrations Committee, NMDC for organizing and co-coordinating various programmes for the celebrations of the National Maritime Day and Merchant Navy Flag Day.
  • NMDC Committee consists of representatives of Ship Owners, Seafarers, Port Trusts, Maritime State Governments, and Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways

8) Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched the “MyNEP2020” Platform of NCTE Web Portal

  • “MyNEP2020” launched to seek suggestions, inputs and membership from the stakeholders for preparing a draft for the development of National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) and National Mission for Mentoring Program membership
  • The “MyNEP2020” platform to be operational from 1st April 2021 to 15th May 2021

7) Mukhmeet S. Bhatia took charge as Director General of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Ministry of Labour & Employment. ESIC Headquarters is in New Delhi.

  • Mukhmeet S. Bhatia is an IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre of the 1990 batch, earlier worked as Additional Secretary in the Dept. of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance

8) Ministry of Labour and Employment set up Expert Committees for suggesting standards under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSH&WC) Code, 2020

  • The government constituted Expert Committees to review the existing rules and regulations on safety, health and working conditions standards, about factories, docks and construction work
  • Expert Committees for Factories and Dock Works under the Chairmanship of R. K. Elangovan
  • Expert Committees for the Building and Other Construction Works under the Chairmanship of P.L.N. Murthy
  • Expert Committees for the Fire Safety under the Chairmanship of D. K. Shami, Fire Advisor to the Govt of India

9) Bharat Dynamics Limited to manufacture Akash missiles was flagged off by Lt Gen A.P. Singh, Director General and Senior Colonel Commandant of Army Air Defence

  • Bharat Dynamics Limited is the manufacturer of Akash missiles both for the Indian Army and Indin Air Force
  • DRDO designed and developed Akash Weapon System with 96% indigenous content

10) Government rolled back its decision to cut down interest rates on small savings, earlier on 31 March 2021, the government notified first quarter FY 2021-21 interest rates on small savings

  • Rate of return on the Public Provident Fund cut down from 7.1% to 6.4%, Senior Citizen Savings Scheme was cut from 7.4% to 6.5% and Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme’s return was reduced from 7.6% to 6.9%
  • Government decided to roll back its decision and shall remain unchanged from the fourth quarter of FY 2020-21

11) Nilam Sawhney took charge as an Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner, earlier she served as Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh till December 2020.

  • Nilam Sawhney IAS officer of 1984 batch from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, was the first woman Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh

12) The Gujarat Assembly passed the Freedom of Religion Act (Amendment) Bill, provision against forcible conversion through marriage or allurement

  • By this Act, a Person can penalise for forcible or fraudulent conversion by marriage or “love jihad’ up to 3 years in jail and a fine up to 5 lakhs

13) Mallika Srinivasan, CMD, TAFE Ltd appointed as the chairperson of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB)

  • It’s the first time, person from the private sector made head of the PESB
  • PESB is a high powered body constituted by the Government in 1987 to evolve a managerial policy for the Central Public Sector Enterprises and advise the Government on appointments to their top management posts
