♦ Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted engineers on Engineer Day, 15 September. It is to celebrate as a tribute to M. Visvesvaraya, Indian engineer and Bharat Ratna on his birth anniversary.
Note: Telangana state celebrates Engineers day on July 11th on the birthday of Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur, a chief engineer during the rule of Nizam of Hyderabad. He built many major irrigation works, buildings such as Osman Sagar, Nizam Sagar Himayat Sagar, and Ali Sagar reservoir
♦ Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship presented the award for Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board with Eminent Engineers Award. This award presented at the special event to mark the 52nd Engineers Day organized by the Institution of Engineers in New Delhi
♦ The theme of 52nd Engineers Day for the year 2019 is “Engineering for change”.
♦ Merging, an amalgamation of the United Bank of India (UBI), Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) will come into effect from 1 April 2020. By this merging, It became the second-largest bank in India after State Bank of India (SBI) with a total business volume of ₹18 lakh crore.

Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya popularly known as Sir MV born in Muddenahalli village, Karnataka on15 September 1860 to Venkatalakshamma and Mokshagundam Srinivasa. He died on 12 April 1962. He is a famous Indian civil engineer, who served as 19th Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1919.
Sir MV is chief engineer for the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mysuru city and chief engineer of a flood protection system for Hyderabad city. He was called “Father of Modern Mysore State”
The career of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya
- Joined service as Assistant Engineer in Bombay, 1885
- Designed and constructed automatic gates at Lake Fife Storage Reservoir. Got patent for his construction
- In 1903, He introduced a new system of irrigation known as the Block System
- In 1904, He Represented Bombay Government at the Simla Irrigation Commission
- He worked as Chief Engineer and Secretary to the Government of Mysore in 1909
- Dewan of Mysore, PWD, and Railway, 1913
- Board of Directors of Tata Steel, 1927–1955
- He was president of Indian Science Congress session, 1923
- He got honorary membership of London Institution of Civil Engineers
- Awarded fellowship of Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore)
- Bharat Ratna award in 1955
Mir Ahmed Ali/ Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur/ Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur
Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur was a chief engineer during the rule of Nizam of Hyderabad, born on 11 July 1877 in Hyderabad. He was responsible for many major irrigation works, buildings, and bridges in Hyderabad State such as Nizam Sagar, Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, and Ali Sagar reservoir, which was named after him.
The Hyderabad House in Delhi was designed and constructed under his supervision. He also served as a chairman of the National Planning Committee on River training and Irrigation.
The government of Telangana announced his birthday 11 July to be observed as Telangana Engineers day
