100 monuments illuminated in Tri-color to celebrate India’s historic achievement of administering 100 crores COVID vaccines
The Archaeological Survey of India, under the Ministry of Culture, is lighting up 100 monuments throughout the country in tri-colour to commemorate India’s historic achievement of administering 100 crores COVID vaccines in one of the world’s largest and fastest vaccination programmes. The lighting is being held to pay homage and express appreciation to corona warriors who have worked tirelessly to combat the covid pandemic.
The 100 monuments illuminated in Tri-color include UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, and Qutb Minar in Delhi, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh, Konark Temple in Odisha, MamallapuramRath temples in Tamil Nadu, St Francis of Assisi Church in Goa, Khajuraho, the forts of Chittor and Kumbhalgarh in Rajasthan.
To express gratitude to corona warriors – vaccinators, sanitation staff, paramedical, auxiliary workers, and police personnel – who went above and beyond their call of duty to assist the country in effectively combating the pandemic and for their selfless service to humanity, the 100 monuments will remain lit in tri-colour on the night of October 21, 2021, as India achieved the milestone 100 crore vaccination mark.
India joins China as the only country in the billion-dose club.
